Our Process

Long Island CrematoriumYour Long Island Crematorium

Mt. Pleasant Crematory of Long Island, managed by Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of Center Moriches, has a state-of-the-art crematorium. We take all the cremation elements into consideration. We understand the emotional toll losing a loved one takes on you and your family, especially right after a sudden passing. We do our best to make the situation as easy as possible. No matter how you try to understand it, losing a loved one is never an easy experience. We’ve found that when someone passes, those who survive lose more than just a life companion or dear friend, they lose a part of themselves. Dealing with loss is difficult enough without all the enormous decisions you have to make afterwards.

Our crematorium is available for clients from across Long Island. Our cremation services are trusted and we understand all the elements that go into this process, including how to properly handle the remains. We aim to make this process go as smoothly as possible.

A Caring Cremation Process

One of those concerns is how we care for the deceased. Whether it’s the expressed wishes of the deceased or the family’s wishes, many decide to cremate their loved one’s remains. But still, their number one concern is how we care for the loved one and preserve their dignity. This is a very important question and is why we have gone to enormous lengths to make our cremation process one of the most unique in the cemetery industry.

With our Long Island crematorium, you are privy to a couple of options in terms of services and procedures. You may include special services, which can occur as either pre- or post-cremation services. What this entails is that a commemorative service will take place with or without the act of scattering ashes. That is up to you. We can simply return the cremated returns.

The History of a Crematorium

The Crematorium has a long history with modern cremation dating back to Europe in the 1870s. Before the emergence of the crematorium, urban areas had difficulties handling these sorts of issues. With diseases rampant in Europe, it became more more sanitary to burn bodies through cremation as opposed to burying them in the ground. And slowly and surely this process has taken hold for cultures spanning the globe. And over the years, the process of cremation has become refined and now has a nice range of options for those to choose from when considering the burial or placement of their loved one.

Why We Switched to the 'Clean Sweep' Cremation System

Since 2012, the crematorium at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery has been using a state-of-the-art patent pending cremation sweeping tool, currently called "Clean Sweep." What makes our system different is that, unlike the typical wire brush used to clean out the retorts, our tool uses air to extract only the remaining fragments (ashes) of your loved one and not the remains of other cremations. This reduces what is known as the "co-mingling of ashes." All of the innovations and updates are due to our need and desire to give you and your loved ones the types of services they deserve. As technology in this industry advances, we are sure to be on the front line.

More Than A Long Island Crematorium

Once finished with the crematorium, we have a few service locations to choose aside from our beautiful onsite chapel. Our staff can work with you to pick a suitable offsite location. And as far as placing the remains, we provide you with a variety of options, including:

By offering you these choices, you have the opportunity to choose the proper final resting place for your loved one. When you choose a cremation, it is also more than just about saving money. There are other factors involved when coming to this conclusion.

Once again, Mt. Pleasant has raised the bar on how we care for your loved ones and serve you best. We will continue to find innovative ways to improve our cemetery and crematorium, keeping them efficient, dignified, respectful and, most importantly, affordable.
